Appalachian Power is looking to raise your electric bill by about $20 per month. The electric utility company proposed two options to recover $641.7 million in fuel costs.
The final decision is with the West Virginia Public Service Commission, which will decide if the costs are reasonable and prudent. Eyewitness News said a rise in the cost of coal in gas in 2021 is responsible for the hundreds of millions the company is trying to recover. Three more public hearings are scheduled before the evidentiary hearing in September, including a hearing in Charleston on July 24. Anyone who wants to make a public comment on Appalachian Power’s filing can call PSC at 1-800-344-5113.
