Investigators said they believe a lightning strike not only started a fire at a Putnam County apartment complex but also disabled its alarm system. The West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office confirmed the fire at the Devonshire apartment complex in Scott Depot started in the attic. Twenty-seven residents were displaced and twelve units were damaged. The rest of the building has been closed due to electric hazards. The fire started at 3 am, so residents at the complex had to to evacuate in the middle of the night. The Red Cross is helping the displaced residents.
