A contract extension expired for union Frontier Communications employees at midnight Saturday. The Communications Workers of America said the negotiations are ongoing, and they’re holding off on striking for now. Union members voted last month to authorize a strike if a settlement couldn’t be reached. The union issued a statement saying that because there has been progress made in bargaining, they have agreed to continue to report to work while negotiations continue. The union represents 1,400 employees. It is asking Frontier to limit the number of subcontractors working on the state’s $1.2 billion project to expand broadband access.
