New billion-dollar data center is coming to Mason County

Mason County has been selected as the site of a lifecycle carbon neutral hydrogen production facility and data center marking a $2 billion investment. Fidelis New Energy released plans for a four-phase construction project estimated to generate 800 full-time jobs and about 4,200 construction workers, according to a news release from the West Virginia Governor’s Office. The completed project could store about 10 million metric tons of C02, providing north of $100 million in annual revenue. Hydrogen may be used for datacenters, greenhouses, transportation and steel production. State leaders expect operations for the facility to begin in 2028.
