Summersville Lake could soon be a state park

Officials are planning to open West Virginia’s newest state park in Nicholas County. A bill to designate Summersville Lake as a state park was sent to the West Virginia Legislature. Summersville Lake sees about a million visitors for boating, biking, swimming, fishing and hunting. The bill would make Summersville Lake first state park formed in more than three decades. The Governor’s Office said the site will be developed through private and public partnerships to offer new trails, climbing areas and lodging options. The state’s Division of Natural Resources plans to schedule a public meeting to accept input from the general public.
