New Logan housing project will cater to veterans

The Loganwood apartment complex that is being built on Hudgins Street in Logan will have 33 apartment units of affordable senior housing, and veterans will get preference as tenants. After building a senior housing development across town, Eyewitness News said the planners were approached by the fire chief of the city of Logan about a veterans project and that’s how it started. To be eligible for more funding, the housing authority formed the non-profit Logan Housing Corporation which allowed them to secure the $9 million in funding needed to break ground on the Loganwood Apartments in January. The land was donated by the city and the Logan Medical Center while the funding came from low-income housing tax credits along with federal home loan bank programs. The facility will be four floors and the authority will allow seniors 60 and older to apply. The goal is to have the facility open by May.
