‘No confidence’ resolution passes at WVU regarding Gordon Gee

Faculty at West Virginia University have overwhelmingly passed a no-confidence resolution regarding president Gordon Gee this week. More than 800 faculty assembly members voted on the resolution with 797 for the no-confidence resolution and 100 voted against it. The vote comes as Gee has drawn criticism over the university’s attempt to downsize amid decreasing enrollment, budget shortages and increasing debt. With a budget shortfall projected to grow as high as $75 million in five years, West Virginia University proposed cutting 32 programs — 9% of the majors offered. Gee recently had his contract extended through June 30, 2025. He has announced plans to retire at the end of that contract.
