The Charleston Department Store is being torn down after being a fixture in the Capital City for more than 100 years. The store most recently was at 1661 West Washington Street and had been there since 2005. The location closed permanently in March and cited struggles brought on by the pandemic as the reason for the closure. The Columbus, Ohio – based housing firm Woda Group purchased the property and has plans to build new apartments on the lot.
