Pollution iniative at WVU aims to boost local communities

A West Virginia University team of industrial engineers is looking to turn $800,000 worth of EPA funding into direct support for local industry. The university said on its website that the engineers are partnering with industrial facilities in disadvantaged communities statewide, providing free technical help so businesses can improve their energy efficiency and minimize their waste streams, air pollution and carbon footprints. The EPA program advances a federal initiative that directs 40% of certain federal benefits to communities overburdened by pollution.
