St. Albans city officials have agreed to partner with Safe Haven Baby Boxes to provide resources for expecting mothers in the area. City council members have been considering the St. Albans Fire Department as a location for the safe and legal surrender of infants as the Central Fire Station is always staffed with certified emergency medical technicians. The fire department expects the project to cost about $18,000 and are reaching out to local business, civic organizations and religious groups for support. Anyone wanting to help can donate at the fire department located at 51 Sixth Avenue. City officials ask donations are marked as “Baby Box.” The Safe Haven Baby Box organization offers a 24-hour hotline for women that wish to speak with a trained professional as they consider the option of safely surrendering a baby. The organization may be reached by calling 1-866-99BABY1.
