A Lincoln County elementary school is up for possible closure

Ranger Elementary School in Lincoln County could be closing its doors. The Lincoln County Board of Education told Eyewitness News declining enrollment, facility issues and lack of a sprinkler system are a few of the reasons why the school may have to close down. The school has an enrollment of 72 students right now and the number could drop in the coming years. If the school were to close, students would go to either Harts PK-8 or West Hamlin Elementary. There’s one more opportunity to offer comments, at a meeting tonight (Thursday) at Ranger Elementary. Then, the board could vote as early as November 7. The West Virginia State Board of Education would have the final decision in December.
