Former Putnam County worker commits ethics violation, faces public reprimand

A former Putnam County official was issued a public reprimand and ordered to pay restitution after investigators said he withheld two vehicles from a public auction for personal use. Nyle Whittington, a former Putnam County Building and Grounds Manager, previously admitted to violating the Ethics Act by removing two of the county commission’s surplus vehicles from a public auction so that he could purchase one for $200 and allowing another county employee to purchase the other for the same price, according to a news release from the West Virginia Ethics Commission. They assessed a $3,000 fine and ordered Whittington to pay restitution to the Putnam County Commission.
