Residents on the West Side deal with a gas outage; boil water advisory in effect

Hundreds of homes on Charleston’s West Side are dealing with no gas or drinkable water and it could days before the issues are resolved. The American Red Cross of Central Appalachia Region opened a temporary shelter at the Bream Memorial Presbyterian Church at 315 West Washington Street for those affected.
About 700 Mountaineer Gas customers are impacted after water entered the company’s natural gas distribution system. A spokesperson told Eyewitness News that the outage can’t be fixed until the water main breaks are taken care of.
It’s not known how the water main broke. Mountaineer Gas Company said a total restoration estimate may be as early as this evening.
