State Police whistleblower is released from jail

The former West Virginia State Police trooper and self-admitted whistleblower reached a plea deal with prosecutors Friday that saw him released from jail. Joseph Comer pleaded no contest to domestic battery and guilty to violating a protective order in the case, according to his attorney David Moye. Eyewitness News said that, as part of the plea deal, prosecutors agreed to dismiss a strangulation charge. Comer was credited with time served in the case and was released from jail Friday. He will also be required to complete an anger management program. Moye said the domestic battery charge will be dismissed if Comer passes all drug tests and is not arrested for any crimes. Comer and his attorney have insisted he is the victim of a smear campaign by former West Virginia State Police administrators.
