New Amtrak route could boost tourism in West Virginia

The City of Huntington announced that grant funds will help restore Amtrak train service through the area. The Amtrak Cardinal Train route from Chicago to New York City will run through Huntington, according to Mayor Steve Williams. A $500,000 federal grant to help restore the route through nine towns in the Mountain State, which include Huntington, Charleston, Montgomery, Smithers, Thurmond, Prince, Hinton, Alderson and White Sulphur Springs. It is only the only Amtrak route in the country with stations inside a national park. Mayor Williams believes the route will help boost tourism in the state.
