Livestock tranquilizers are gaining popularity in many parts of West Virginia, including Wheeling. But they’re not being used on livestock. The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department said it’s being mixed with other products to be pushed out for individuals who are abusing drugs. The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department has been testing needles through the county’s needle exchange program and found a huge increase in Xylazine and Fentanyl. They showed up in at least half the needles in Wheeling and 15-20 percent statewide. The side effects of this drug include overdose and death. When injected, it will create large gaping wounds.
