A new bill would stiffen penalties for harming K-9s

A new bill aims to protect West Virginia police dogs. Senate Bill 399 would make it unlawful to hurt any police dog, resulting in one to three years behind bars. Anyone who knowingly commits battery against a K-9 would face fines plus two to five years behind bars. The bill also states that causing the death of a K-9 would result in a felony offense with three to 15 years in prison. The legislation is out of committee and now moves on to the State Senate.
