Cambell County Schools must include parks and libraries in levy under new court ruling

The West Virginia Supreme Court has reversed a circuit court decision requiring Cabell County Schools to include the county’s parks and libraries in an excess levy ballot. The ruling issued Thursday morning reverses a judge’s December ruling after the school district voted in August to stop giving levy funds to the Huntington Park and Recreation District and Cabell County Library system. Cabell County Schools pushed for the cuts as the school system faces a budget crunch. The current levy expires in 2025. The new levy that will be voted on in May will cover 2026-30. Now it is left to the state’s highest court to determine if parks and libraries will remain on the excess levy in May.
