Elkins doctor faces tax fraud charges

A West Virginia doctor has been indicted for failing to pay nearly $2.5 in payroll taxes. Nitesh Ratnakar was indicted on 41 counts of tax fraud and one count of obstructing a federal grand jury. Ratnakar is accused of withholding payroll taxes from his employees’ paychecks and then failing to pay the Internal Revenue Service while he owned and operated a gastroenterology practice and a medical equipment manufacturer in Elkins. Between 2018 and 2022, Ratnakar allegedly failed to pay over $2.4 million in employee withholdings to the IRS, according to the news release.
