Former firefighter enters plea to sexual assault charges

A former St. Albans firefighter has changed his plea to guilty regarding charges alleging that he sexually assaulted a minor who was a family friend. Boyd Poff entered the guilty plea this week and faces at least 25 years in a state correctional facility followed by a period of supervision and at least a $5,000 fine. The next court date will be May 8th. Prosecutors said Poff would pick the child up from school for overnight stays and he would take the child on trips. Poff is no longer employed by the St. Albans Fire Department.
