Inmate is accused of hiding drugs in a vent

An inmate at Southern Regional Jail has been charged with felonies after deputies said a stash of illegal drugs were found in a holding cell at the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. Shannon Carte has been charged with two counts of possession with intent to deliver narcotics and offenses related to adults in custody, according to a news release from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department. Surveillance footage showed Carte accessing a plastic bag hidden in a heating vent at the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators said a search of the cell revealed multiple bags of suspected marijuana and methamphetamine. The investigation is still active.
