The Charleston Municipal Auditorium has been temporarily shut down due to “critical electrical and structural issues.” The closure comes after the city sought a third-party assessment on the condition of the building, which opened in 1939. In a news release, Charleston Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin said the City was notified of critical electrical and structural issues that require immediate attention. Events through at least this week are canceled. Speaker Jordan Peterson was set for an appearance Wednesday, followed by country singer Warren Zeiders on Friday, Feb. 9. Both of those events have been postponed. The Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center, which operates the auditorium, is currently working with promoters regarding currently-scheduled events.
