New summer benefit is available to SNAP recipients

A new federal program to support children in low-income areas with grocery assistance will soon be taking applications. The West Virginia Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer program will offer assistance to school-age children this summer, according to a news release from the Department of Human Services.Applications will be available starting Monday online or at a county office. Kids who attend schools that participate in the National School Lunch Program and reside in a low-income household are eligible. Homes with children between the ages of 6-to-17 receiving some benefits such as SNAP of WV WORKS will be automatically enrolled in the program.
