Work to begin soon on new turf fields in North Charleston

The city of Charleston announced an investment to turf the multi-use athletic field at the North Charleston Community Center. The move will make the field the 11th city-owned facility to be turfed. Charleston city council member Larry Moore told Eyewitness News that he has been pushing for it to happen for almost three years now. The turfed North Charleston field comes with a $1.2 million price tag, paid for by a federal grant and money in the city’s fiscal year budget for 2024. It’s an investment Moore said will be great for sports tourism. The city of Charleston said in a news release that work will begin on the field in late spring or early summer of this year.
