Sheriff’s office maintains a year-round prescription drug drop box

The Kanawha County Sheriff’s department said over the years they have received hundreds of unused medications with their drop-off system, including last weekend’s event. The sheriff’s office, Charleston Police, and several other law enforcement agencies across the state were part of the National Drug Take Back Day, saying it’s the safest and most responsible way to get rid of unwanted drugs like tablets, capsules, and patches. The agencies will turn the medications over to the DEA, who will then incinerate and dispose of them properly. The sheriff’s office has a year-round drug take-back box inside the lobby of the Legal Process/Training section of its office on Goshhorn Street in Charleston.
