State officials try to prevent the spread of the invasive spotted lanternfly

The West Virginia Department of Agriculture is asking West Virginians to be on the lookout for invasive spotted lanternflies. The pests have been confirmed in 13 West Virginia counties and the babies will begin hatching soon, mainly in the northern part of the state. The department of agriculture said the spotted lanternfly is also starting to move into north central West Virginia. If you travel to the north, or states including North Carolina, Tennessee or Virginia, they recommend checking and washing your car when you return to prevent the spread.
