A Fayette County man was sentenced to life in prison for a murder committed in 2022, prosecutors say. Kayce R. Simms, 21, of Mount Hope, was sentenced for shooting that occurred in November 2022. Police responded to the shooting along Teng Lane in the Glen Jean area where they found Ashtin Owens, 37, with two gunshot wounds, according to the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney for Fayette County. Investigators determined that Simms shot Owens in his home after a dispute in which he accused Owens of disrespecting his grandmother, who Owens had an argument with earlier in the day. Owens was flown to a Charleston trauma center but later died of his wounds.
