FBI helps schools understand dangers students face on the web

In a closed meeting at the Embassy Suites in downtown Charleston, the West Virginia Department of Education and school administrators sat down with the FBI and Homeland Security as they shared information they had recently learned about online safety. The FBI tells Eyewitness News that every day, through social media, gaming apps, and other online platforms, hackers and adults posing as minors interact with kids that can cause students to commit crimes or even harm others, as 1 in 5 children report they’ve been contacted by a predator just in the last year.
While there are risks associated with the internet, the FBI and the West Virginia Department of Education look to teach kids how to navigate the online world responsibly.
