Kent Carper’s seat to be filled by one of seven candidates

Kanawha County commissioners will choose from a field of seven candidates to fill the position left by the resignation of Kent Carper. The commission began accepting applications on May 20 for a temporary replacement for Carper, who abruptly stepped down earlier this month. Commissioners have 30 days from Carper’s effective resignation to name an interim replacement. The eligible candidates for the temporary position are:

Richard Daugherty
Chris Negley
Larry Rowe
Michael Scarberry
Marc Slotnick
Richard Symns
Natalie Tennant

A decision on the replacement will be announced by commissioners Lance Wheeler and Ben Salango during the commission’s meeting today. Natalie Tennant won the Democratic nomination during the West Virginia primary election on May 14. She will face Chris Walters in November for the long-term right to the open seat.
