Montgomery City Council seat to be decided by tiebreaker contest

A deck of cards will decide who sits on the Montgomery City Council. Roger Landers and Sean Malhotra each have 109 votes, and since Montgomery is split between Kanawha and Fayette counties, the county commissions can’t make the decision and it’s left up the city instead. A special meeting has been set for Thursday, May 30, where both candidates will turn over a card from a deck that’s been spread out face down, and the candidate with the higher card will win the seat. The Secretary of State’s Office offered guidance on how to break the tie.
