Preston County Sheriff Paul “Moe” Pritt died earlier this week at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital due to complications from an infection. Pritt was a lifelong resident of Preston County. He joined law enforcement after graduating from the West Virginia State Police Academy in 1994. He was running unopposed for reelection in the primary. According to state law, the county commission must appoint a replacement within 30 days if the terms of the prosecuting attorney, sheriff, assessor, or county surveyor cannot be completed.
