Watch out for a scam where the caller poses as a utility company

The West Virginia Energy Office is warning residents of new phone scams targeting homeowners in the state. The scammers are claiming to represent “West Virginia Power,” “Appalachian Power” and “First Energy,” among other utility companies, offering deals to make homes more energy efficient. The scammers try to get personal information. If you feel that you may have been a victim of a scam, you can contact the Attorney General Office’s Consumer Protection Hotline at 1-800-368-8808 or visit online.
