A Hurricane man is sentenced for stealing from charitable homes

A Hurricane man was sentenced to prison Monday for embezzllement. Paul Spurlock was convicged of stealing around $106,500 from the Grand Lodge of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, along with Rebekah Home in Elkins, which provided housing for those in need. Prosecutors said he wrote at least 33 unauthorized checks for himself from July 8, 2015, to around January 22, 2019. Because of financial issues, the Odd Fellows Home was closed and auctioned off in 2022.
