Bond may have been obtained illegally for a Sissonville couple

Prosecutors in Kanawha County believe a $400,000 cash bond posted for a husband and wife accused of human trafficking and forced labor of their adopted children was obtained from profits of the trafficking. Donald Ray Lantz and Jeanne Kay Whitefeather, both of Sissonville, were initially charged with felony gross gross child neglect creating a substantial risk of injury after two teenagers were allegedly locked in a shed outside of their home in Oct. 2023. In a recent court filing in the case, Kanawha County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Christopher Krivonyak said the money was obtained by breaking the law. The couple remains free on bond. They are scheduled to be arraigned on the new charges in front of Judge Maryclaire Akers on June 11.
