A Charleston chef became the first in the state to bring home a prestigious industry award Monday. Chef Paul Smith was named the best chef in the southeast by the James Beard Foundation. Smith is the chef at 1010 Bridge in Charleston. The award is the first for a chef from the Mountain State. Smith won after being named a finalist two years in a row. The southeast region pitted Smith against top chefs from Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky and North Carolina.
