Work is continuing this summer at a new elementary school in Kanawha County. The new Clendenin Elementary School is on schedule to open in time for the 2024-25 school year that begins Aug. 16. There is still some exterior and minor items that may need to be completed after the school year begins, but the inside will be open and available to students in August. Students and staff at the school have been operating out of portable classrooms and facilities at the former Bridge Elementary. The previous elementary school was severely damaged by the 2016 flood. Construction on the new elementary school got a boost with $12.6 million in federal funding in December.
