Demolition begins on Charleston’s CASCI building

An iconic downtown Charleston structure coming down. Crews began demolition work at the CASCI building Wednesday morning. The building was once home to a Sears department store with nearly 700 employees, but it closed after the pandemic. TC Energy has announced plans to build its new $60 million headquarters on the property and plans to employ about 450 people. The demolition is expected to take two to three weeks to complete. While the job will occasionally impact traffic along Kanawha Boulevard, the project should be finished in time for the Charleston Sternwheel Regatta.
