Juneteenth celebration is planned at the State Capitol Complex

The capital city is getting set to host a Juneteenth celebration this Saturday with an eclectic mix of performing artists and food vendors. The Herbert Henderson Office of Minority Affairs has partnered with FestivALL Charleston to bring free and family-friendly fun to the State Capitol Complex on June 15 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event will be emceed by comedian and writer E.L. Smith and feature headliners Raheen DeVaughn and Glenn Jones. Juneteenth, observed on June 19, celebrates the the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation which freed enslaved people in the United States. The date is a federal and West Virginia state holiday.
