New grocery store will open this summer on Charleston’s West Side

What used to be known as the center of Charleston’s West Side crime problems will soon become a community grocery store. Work is now underway on Ruby’s Corner Market at Park and Central in the former Park Place Bar. Eyewitness News said the city provided about $360,000 in American Rescue Plan money and renovations for the building that will also serve as a base for the Keep Your Faith Corporation social programs. Charleston police forced the bar to close after it generated hundreds of calls for police service. The community grocery store is expected to open in August.
