Two volunteer fire departments in West Virginia were temporarily closed following worker compensation issues, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
Mason Volunteer Fire Department in Mason was closed from May 28 to May 30 and Dunlow Volunteer Fire Department was closed on May 30 due to the departments failing to submit papers to their insurance carriers. This marks the second closure since April for the Dunlow VFD due to similar compesation issues. Volunteer fire departments are required to maintain a valid workers’ compensation policy for all members of the departments.
