Jackson County faces questions on choice of uses for opiod settlement money

About three months after Jackson County commissioners approved the use of opioid settlement money to partially fund an emergency responder training center that includes a gun range, there are questions about how best county and state officials can use the money to battle addiction issues. Jackson County Commission approved the purchase of the Walter Smittle III Regional Responder Training Center using settlement money, according to the Jackson Herald and Star News in late March. The building on Old Stone Ridge Road and 3.360 acres will be acquired from Roderick Parsons for $675,000. The funds will come from seven additional sources.
