The mother of an infant has been charged with death of a child by parent or guardian, according to a news release from West Virginia State Police. The child, 16 days old at the time was found unresponsive at 9:40 p.m. Thursday, and through the investigation of Trooper T.A. Fisher, mother Brooke Kessler, 33, of Hurricane, initially was charged with malicious assault, strangulation and child abuse causing serious injury. Those charges were changed to death of a child by parent or guardian following the infant’s death Sunday afternoon at Charleston Area Medical Center Women & Children’s Hospital, according to State Police. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
