Kanawha County Board of Education member Ric Cavender was elected Monday to be the board’s new president. The vote came during the board’s meeting Monday after Cavender, Kate White and Jim Crawford all took their oaths for their new terms, according to the school board. White was elected to serve as president pro tempore. Cavender was elected to his first term on the school board in 2016. He has served for more than a decade as executive director of Charleston Main Streets, a nonprofit focusing on economic and community development.
