Scammimg the elderly is popular and lucrative in WVA

Scammers continue to threaten the financial security of the elderly citizens of West Virginia. Scams targeting seniors are the most popular and most lucrative scams in practice today, said Jason Webber, deputy chief of the Clarksburg Police Department. Elder fraud complaints increased by 14% last year, according to a report from the FBI released this year. U S Attorney for the Northern District of West Virginia William Ihlenfeld said “If you become a victim of a scam, talk to law enforcement and to the U.S. Attorney’s office. By coming forward not only will they potentially help themselves, they’re also going to perhaps prevent someone else from becoming a victim,” Ihlenfeld said.
