Sentence extended for a Beckley man serving time for murder

A Beckley man who is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of a 17-year-old has been sentenced to an additional 10 years on federal gun crime charges. 30-year old Steven Lawson Jr. of Beckley, has been sentenced to an additional 10 years for being a felon in possession of a firearm in which he used in the murder of 17-year-old, mother of his child, Azareyiah Mitchell in 2020, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of West Virginia. The new sentence will run consecutively with his current life sentence with no chance of parole.
