A Texas man pleads guilty to trafficking drugs into West Virginia

A Texas man entered a guilty plea in Boone County Friday after he was caught transporting nearly six pounds of methamphetamines into West Virginia. Steven Pena of Friendswood, Texas, was arrested after the U.S. 119 Drug and Violent Crime Task Force uncovered a plot between him and Aubrey Jack Turley, II, of Uneeda, West Virginia, to bring drugs into the state, according to the Boone County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. On Jan. 15, 2022, Pena drove the drugs from Texas to Turley’s home in Boone County before the Special Response Team of the state police executed a search warrant on the home. Troopers where they discovered a large amount of drugs in Pena’s vehicle, seizing it and $9,000 in cash. Turley was convicted and faces up to 15 years in prison for his role while Pena faces up to 30 years. Pena is being held at South Central Regional Jail as he awaits his sentencing date that is set for Oct. 29 at 2:30 p.m. in Boone County.
