Bat tests positive for rabies in Raleigh County

Health officials have issued an alert after a bat found in Raleigh County tested positive for rabies. The positive test came out of the Bolt area on Tuesday, according to a social media post from the Beckley-Raleigh County Health Department. Department officials advise area residents to avoid feeding or coming into contact with wildlife and stray animals. It is recommended pets and livestock are vaccinated against rabies. Anyone who observes an animal that acts suspicious or has been exposed to a bat is urged to notify local officials.
