Deadline is extended for certain disaster benefits

The deadline for disaster unemployment benefits applications in portions of West Virginia affected by severe spring weather has been extended. Residents living or working in Hancock, Kanawha, Marshall, Ohio, Roane, Wetzel and Wood counties who lost their jobs due to severe weather that occurred on April 11 and 12 may apply for federal benefits by August 22, according to a news release from WorkForce West Virginia. The counties were designated as a major disaster area by President Joe Biden on May 24 after strong storms brought high winds, tornadoes, landslides, mudslides and flood conditions. The DUA benefits are available for self-employed workers who are not entitled to unemployment insurance benefits. To apply, contact WorkForce West Virginia.
