New solar plant is planned in Nicholas County

State regulators have approved construction of a solar plant in Nicholas County capable of producing power for up to 90,000 homes. In May, Deep Lake Energy Center filed an application to construct a 150-megawatt plant on the 1,500-acre site of a former surface mine near Summersville, according to a news release from the West Virginia Pubic Service Commission. The company estimates the project will require a $386 million investment and would produce more than 300 jobs during construction. The new plant would be built next to a Nicholas County Solar Project and will take five to ten years to complete.
