Plea deal is accepted in 2022 murder case

A man who had been charged with murder after a man was found shot to death in the front yard of a home in Charleston took a drastically reduced plea deal on Monday. Shavan Vondell Collins, also known as “Bang,” pleaded guilty to being a prohibited person with a gun in connection with the shooting death of Dontaze Mosley of Charleston in Aug. 2022. In exchange for the plea, a first-degree murder indictment was dropped against Collins, along with a charge of use or presentment of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Kanawha County prosecutors also agreed not to prosecute him in a separate case where is he accused of conspiracy and bringing contraband into a facility. Kanawha County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Alan Nichols said Mosley’s family was in agreeance with the plea deal. He’ll be sentenced on Sept. 9 and faces five years in prison.
